Legal and professional services
Firms run on procedure: which matters may be opened, which documents a filing needs, which deadlines follow from which events, and which team takes the work. Helixor applies that procedure exactly and records which rule decided. It improves the procedure from outcomes, and it leaves professional judgement, including privilege, with people.
The situation#
Intake, docketing and work allocation are decided many times a day, often by checklists in people's heads or by logic scattered across practice systems. A missed conflict pre-check, a missing document or a miscalculated deadline is costly, and the firm must be able to show later exactly which rule applied.
Helixor turns written procedure into a versioned pack with a closed set of outcomes and a receipt per decision. Corrections, such as a returned filing, a reassigned matter or an intake decision reversed by the conflicts team, feed a learning loop that proposes procedure changes and gates them. Anything that needs professional judgement goes to reasoning, which abstains to a lawyer when the evidence is not there.
Decisions that fit#
| Decision | Platform parts | Learning loop learns from | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Matter intake: accept, refer to intake committee or decline, against the firm's stated criteria | Core (intake criteria, reason, remedy naming missing information), learning loop | Committee reversals, matters closed early | Planned |
| Conflict pre-checks: flag a new matter for the conflicts team when stated party or relationship conditions hold | Core over extracted parties and relationships, outcome memory, human review of every flag | Conflicts-team clearances and confirmations | Planned |
| Deadline and document consistency checks: required documents present, dates consistent with stated procedural rules | Core (consistency invariants, remedy naming what is missing) | Returned or rejected filings, docketing corrections | Planned |
| Routing to the right team: practice group, office and seniority | Core, reasoning for unclear matters, solvers for workload balance | Reassignments, write-offs by team | Planned |
| Questions procedure does not settle | Reasoning with abstention; a lawyer decides | Lawyers' decisions on escalated items | Preview |
| Privilege and confidentiality judgement | Not a platform decision. People decide; Helixor can route the item to them. | n/a | Stays human |
Rows marked Planned depend on a pack you author from your procedures. The data-protection pack that ships today, with your own matter-number rules added, keeps client identifiers out of model prompts.
Not legal advice
Helixor helps you apply firm procedure consistently and evidence it. It does not replace the professional judgement your obligations require, and does not by itself satisfy any professional or regulatory rule. Ask your general counsel.
Recommended deployment#
- Intake and docketing decisions: the core next to the practice-management system, in process or as a sidecar, patterns 1 and 2.
- A firm-wide policy service: a shared decision service behind an authenticating gateway, pattern 3.
- Escalation and the learning loop: hybrid, pattern 5, releasing only what your engagement terms allow.
See Deployment patterns.
Golden set and outcomes to capture#
- Golden set: past intake decisions and filings with the correct outcome and the procedure clause behind each, including deadline edge cases such as weekends and holidays in the rules you encode.
- Outcomes: committee reversals, conflicts-team results, rejected filings, reassignments.
- Overrides: every manual change to a decision, with a reason.
- Linkage: the receipt and pack version on every decision, kept with the matter record.
Honest limits#
- Helixor applies procedure you state. It does not interpret law, and it does not decide privilege, conflicts or merit; people do.
- Deadline rules must be encoded and maintained by you; the platform does not track changes in court or agency rules.
- Procedure packs are authored by you; domain packs are Planned in the catalog.
- The learning loop and reasoning run on the hosted Helixor platform and are in Preview. Check engagement terms before sending anything to them.
Next steps#
- Pick one procedure
A document checklist for one filing type is a good start. Write it in the Playbooks format.
- Capture corrections
Link rejected filings and reversals to decisions from week one.
